Congratulations to Ms. Amy Hilzey on her selection as the “Best of the Bunch” winner for July 2015. The “Best of the Bunch” honoree is an educator or caregiver that goes above and beyond to provide high quality education, care, and customer service to families. The honoree is selected from anonymous nominations (teacher and location name removed) from all AppleTree & Gilden Woods Early Care and Preschool locations.
Ms. Amy is the Young 5’s teacher at the Knapp Corner AppleTree Early Care and Preschool location in Grand Rapids, MI.
Most of Ms. Amy’s students can count by 10’s, 5’s, and 2’s.
Ms. Amy’s print-rich environment includes sight word and other sets of more difficult words to challenge her young readers.
This activity in Ms. Amy’s Young 5’s classroom provided complex vocabulary and opportunity for emerging reading and writing skills, as well as bike safety tips.
Matching of lower-case and upper-case numbers are just some of the activities available for Ms. Amy’s students.
Ms. Amy’s nomination letter from Ms. Katie, Program Director of AppleTree Knapp Corner:
“Ms. Amy is truly, the best of the bunch! She goes above and beyond in so many ways, but is most influential in the lives of her students. Throughout her time here at AppleTree, Amy has proven her teaching ability and has flourished with each age group she has taught.
Most recently, Amy has served as our Young 5’s teacher and has once again proven not only her teaching skills, but also her dedication to AppleTree. Students in Ms. Amy’s class are excelling in their academics and are passing their kindergarten readiness tests with flying colors! We see them counting by 10’s, 5’s and now even by 2’s! When they aren’t reading or writing out their daily sheets, they are counting, sorting, singing, dancing and working in groups! There is minimal down time in her Young 5’s group as they are always on the move exploring new activities. They are also excelling socially and emotionally with help from Ms. Amy.
Amy is a great asset to AppleTree as well in her support of other teachers. Amy is always willing to mentor her peers in curriculum implementation, classroom management, child interactions, or parent relationships.
Amy is a rock-star, truly the “Best of the Bunch”; and if you met her, we’re sure you’d agree, she’s a shining Apple in our AppleTree.”
Congratulations, Ms. Amy! Thank you for your enthusiasm, passion, and commitment to providing quality education and care!
